Father you are my anchor
When the waves grow high
Steadying me from danger
As what I face does try

Father you are what grounds me
To the truths I should hold
Though the storms of life are pounding
I feel your courage, bold

Who will succor
The sufferer?
But our anchor
The offerer

Those who are meek
And lowly of heart
Find what they seek
As the Lord imparts

To the distressed
What will He give?
Those who are impressed
Will feel hope that lives

And with inner peace
For happiness
There’s an increase
Of pure joy in us

I know that I’ve
An unique roll
I must then strive
To reach each goal

To drift and float
Is not enough
For a lone boat
Sea waves are tough

Then watch the storm
More turbulent
Where sin’s froth forms
From rules I’ve bent

I am inept
When I’m alone
Overboard I’m swept
My curse to own

Where came that squall?
How did I sway?
How did I fall
And lose my way?

Shall I sink
Unto despair?
Or shall I think
Unto repair?

I must do
Whate’er it takes
To swim anew
With great painstakes

As I was tossed
About much more
I became lost
With no boat, no shore

To drown or drift
In this great big sea
Only one can lift
And then rescue me

He who calms the wind
And stills each wave
Can help this end
And, too, me save

As I beseeched
I felt a hand
As an arm reached
And raised me grand

I wiped my eyes
There was someone
It was the Christ
The living Son!

And He told me
To study more
For on the sea
There is no shore

He showed me His lone star
And how to navigate
Unto His bright pillar
For which it’s hard to wait

On my boat once more
I am not afraid
For I’m prepared for
Travels of crusade

I’m set on my way
Where the water’s deep
I read and I pray
For I have goals to keep

Prayers the answer
That saves us
I must anchor
Unto Jesus

On a ship that rides the sea
I’ve a course for my journey

I’ve a purpose and destiny
And I will try my best to be

I’ll not rest until I’m done
And live with God and the Son

I’m pointed towards our Lord’s star
It’s polar and seen afar

And when clouds come and perform
I’ll anchor and ride the storm

While I’m tossed upon the waves
I will pray, my soul, God saves

I’ve a light inside of me
That will help me know and see

I’ve covenants that I have made
Thus, I’ll see the path that’s laid

Once a week, I’ll land ashore
To renew my chart once more

I’ll assess my goals and needs
And build faith for loftier deeds

I will search the horizon
For my Lord and New Zion

He’s coming here, to return
And for this my soul does yearn

The road is difficult
The journey is long
When the winds tumult
I’ll not drift from my song

For with hope grown brighter
I will anchor my soul
So, I’ll step lighter
And spring towards my goal

I have faith in the Lord
That He leads my day
With armor and sword
For His will, I will pray

I’ll not murmur or faint
For I am steadfast
As a Latter-Day Saint
On my Lord, my eyes cast

2Nephi 31:19, 20
19And now, my beloved brethren,
after ye have gotten into this strait and narrow path,
I would ask if all is done? Behold, I say unto you,
Nay; for ye have not come thus far save
it were the word of Christ with unshaken faith
in him, relying wholly upon the merits of him
who is mighty to save.
20Wherefore, ye must press forward
with a steadfastness in Christ,
having a perfect brightness of hope,
and a love of God and of all men.
Wherefore, if ye shall press forward,
feasting upon the word of Christ,
and endure to the end, behold,
thus saith the Father:
Ye shall have eternal life.

Ether 12:4
4Wherefore, whoso believeth in God
might with surety hope for a better world,
yea even a place at the right hand of God,
which hope cometh of faith,
maketh an anchor to the souls of men,
which would make them sure and steadfast,
always abounding in good works,
being led to glorify God

Man shall not smite
Nor should he judge
Man shall not fight
Nor should he grudge

The soul cankers
When we feel hate
It’s an anchor
Of heavy weight

We’re kept at bay
And can’t progress
All that we say
Sounds one address

Who will rescue
To journey on?
With thoughts askew
One’s often wrong

Trade that anchor
For a new one
Leave your anger
Call to the Son

He’ll carry the load
Set you a drift
Direct your boat
And make it swift

When a storm comes
You’ll still go far
As God becomes
Your guiding star

From shore to shore
And sea to sea
You’re going towards
All you should be

Unspeakable pain…
Incomprehensible love…
Lord Omnipotent, His name,
Our Savior above.
Two millenia ago
He condescended.
He gave His life, that we’ll know
He lives, who is resplendent-
In sunshine and in shadow.

Like the Polar Star,
Jesus is our sure anchor.
When lost we need not look far.
He’s our focus, strength and more.
He has shown us worth.
Of one thing there’s certainty
None so great has walked the earth!
He, who for eternity,
Has assured us of rebirth.

Ensign, First Presidency Message, March 2008
